We went to the Oasis today, Doug's gut is still on the fritz. His white blood cell count is so low that he can't receive a colonic, he is at risk for a spontaneous bacteremia. A spontaneous bacteremia is when a systemic infection arises from nowhere because the body's defense system is basically disarmed. We got to see the doctor today, he initially wanted to get a CAT scan to see if there were any tumors obstructing his colon, fortunately he examined him and found as I had all weekend, that his belly is soft and basically non-tender with no rebound tenderness. So we are going to give him a huge dose of Vitamin C and Super 2 stimulants tonight and pray for results in the morning. Doug has been pretty lethargic tonight, his weight is down to 156 lbs and his energy is nil.
Ken and Judy visited this afternoon, it was great to see them, it almost felt like I had a normal life, which I don't. My life has one focal point, that is my sick husband and his needs. All other things are superfluous. I feel fortunate when I can remember to pay the bills on time or keep up with the laundry. It is kind of like dreaming that you are dreaming, you know that you are asleep, but who knows if where you wake up is real or still a dream. I can't say that it qualifies as a nightmare yet, but it is definitely a cliffhanger, with many twists and turns and no clues as to the outcome. So I guess I will keep dreaming and keep praying, hoping for a better day tomorrow.
A scary occurrence, after a week without chemo, the initial signal lymph node in Doug's thigh started to grow and harden again. So we aren't done yet folks, apparently this cancer is still fighting back. So we have to fix his guts, tank him up and get him back in the game. The doc is discontinuing the Adriamycin that he was receiving so that he will probably stop losing his hair, though I think that most of it will be gone in the next week. At least it will start growing back pretty immediately. And thankfully, it will be one less grotesquely toxic drug in his system.
I think I hearing the man cheering in the bathroom, will make a full report tomorrow.
