baby steps
That's what I am going to take while trying to recover and tell the story of multiple illnesses and injuries in the past two weeks. This morning I tried to go without pain medication for more than 5 hours. I made it to 16 hours without. I found out that, my umbilical incision is exquisitely tender, so much so that I am afraid that the cellulitis has taken a deeper hold in the incision, the pain plus the rock hard and cherry red swelling above it, not to mention the yucky old bloody drainage from the wound. The saving grace is that it is less than one fourth of the area effected as was initially. I also discovered that my right calf is tender with walking though not to palpation, hoping to have not formed a clot in that leg in my 2 days home. Also my guts are very, very sore, much like they were when I was admitted with the attack of acute diverticulitis all those days back. It hurts to sit down, stand up or shift position, it also hurts to touch my belly even lightly. So I bit the bullet and took my medicine for pain,it still hurts but it is a bit blunted. I don't feel like doing anything, and I don't feel like doing nothing so I am in a fine fix. I have not been stupid enough yet to get into the car and drive anywhere so I have that going for me. All day I have been craving a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting, some thing that I actually can have on my low fiber-low residue diet. The diet is supposed to help heal my colon by reducing the size and number of poops passing through, though every where I read it states that this diet is not nutritious and should only be followed for a short period of time. I am hoping that Doug gets me that cupcake on his way home from work. So I guess I will go back to bed as there is really nothing else to do here when I can't focus, I still hurt but not as bad and there are no chocolate cupcakes here to eat. What an awesome pity party I could have if there was a chocolate cupcake here huh?
